Concrete cutting services specialize in the work they do and can cut through both thick and thin concrete pads, walls, and other structural items. Often concrete is cut to allow access for something or to remove a section of the concrete. While it is possible to get the tools to cut the concrete yourself, the experience and knowledge that a cutting service brings to the job can make the difference between a precision cut and severe damage to a structure.

Flat Cutting

Large concrete slabs or pads sometimes need removal, or someone needs access to something under the slab. The best solution may be to bring a concrete cutting service in to make a flat cut over the slab and then remove the material inside the cut area. The area cut can be very small, or it can involve multiple cuts and be a significant portion of the slab.

Once the material is cut and removal of the concrete is complete, the cutting service will leave you to deal with the work you need to do in the trench. Once your work is done, you will need to hire a concrete contractor to come and repair the slab where it was cut. The concrete cutting service may be able to recommend someone for you, but most cutting services stop at the removal of the material.

Wall Cutting

When you need an opening in a wall or vertical slab, calling a concrete cutting service that has the tools to make these kinds of cuts is critical. Not all concrete cutters can do verticle openings, so it is essential to ask before you assume they will.

Most verticle cuts are made to install windows or open a wall up to pass something through, like wiring or heating ducts. The saw needs support on a special frame that allows the operator to make the cut without having to hold the saw. If the cutter had to support the saw in their hands, the weight of the concrete saw would make it impossible for them to do the job correctly and with the precision needed.

Before hiring a concrete cutting service to cut through a structural component like a wall, have an architect or engineer look over the drawings or blueprint of the building to be sure that the cuts will not weaken the structure.

If there is a concern, the engineer or architect can layout a plan for the cuts that will still allow the opening you need, but the location will also ensure that the structure is still viable and the building is not going to collapse as a result.
